President Biden took a fourth dose of COVID-19 treatment Friday and his symptoms seem to be improving, his doctor said.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor said Mr. Biden’s oxygen levels are fine and his lungs remain clear as he quarantines in Delaware after his diagnosis on Wednesday.
“His loose, nonproductive cough and hoarseness continue to be his primary symptoms, but they have improved meaningfully from yesterday,” the doctor wrote in a memo. “His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain absolutely normal.”
Dr. O’Connor said Mr. Biden’s bloodwork was normal and he showed no sign of a bacterial infection.
Also, the White House confirmed Mr. Biden’s diagnosis with a PCR version of the coronavirus test, which is considered more sensitive than rapid antigen tests.
Dr. O’Connor said Mr. Biden, 81, is tolerating treatment well and will continue to take Paxlovid, a Pfizer-made drug for COVID-19.
“In the meantime, the president continues to do the work of the American people,” Dr. O’Connor wrote.
Mr. Biden is behind closed doors at his Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, beach house while members of his party urge him to step aside and let someone else lead the Democratic ticket in November.
Concerns about Mr. Biden’s age and cognitive abilities reached a boiling point after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27.
Mr. Biden said Friday he is committed to beating Mr. Trump and planned to return to the campaign trail next week.
