While watching the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night, I finally saw Donald Trump’s plan clearly for the first time (“J.D. Vance emphasizes working-class roots in acceptance speech” web, July 17).

I had wondered why he’d selected Mr. Vance as his vice presidential running mate, but upon hearing Mr. Vance’s speech, I realized Mr. Trump isn’t planning to make America great again for just the next four years — he’s planning to make it great for at least the next 12.

He picked a vice president he is confident will be the next president. Donald Trump never plays the short game, and he always plays for keeps.
