Commanders president Jason Wright will leave the franchise after the 2024 season, the team confirmed Thursday. A Commanders spokesperson said Wright will work as a senior adviser for the next six months before leaving the organization.
Wright, the first Black man to work as a team president in the NFL, joined the Commanders in 2020 under former owner Dan Snyder.
“Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it,” Wright said in a statement. “We’ve set the table for an incredibly bright future under [owner Josh Harris]’s leadership. … This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity.”
A team spokesperson said Wright will focus on the Commanders’ ongoing stadium search during his final months with the franchise. The former NFL player will also work on finding a naming rights deal for Commanders Field in Landover, Maryland.
“Jason has made a remarkable impact on the Commanders organization since he joined four years ago,” Harris said in a statement. “He stepped in at a time of immense challenge and has led this organization through an incredible transformation that set that stage for everything that is to come.”
The Commanders said the search for a new team president will start soon.
