MILWAUKEE — Trump attorney Alina Habba on Thursday told the crowd at the Republican National Convention that Mr. Trump has only committed one crime — loving America.

“Despite the lawfare and the politics, President Trump loves the American people and he loves this country,” Ms. Habba said.

She has been on Mr. Trump’s legal team since 2021 and has often played the role of his spokesperson on television. She recently stepped into the role of senior adviser to Mr. Trump’s reelection campaign.

Ms. Habba said the left has tried to take down the former president “but there is no bulldozer big enough or strong enough to remove the legacy he has built or the future he is creating.”

She called the several civil and criminal cases against the former president “a sham.”

“Every attack on President Trump only strengthens our movement. The left’s madness is only a sign of desperation. Sham indictments and baseless allegations will not deter us, because the only crime President Trump has committed is loving America,” Ms. Habba said.

There are four criminal cases against Mr. Trump, though a federal judge in Florida recently tossed out the government’s charges related to Mr. Trump’s retention of classified documents after leaving the presidency.

He was found guilty in late May of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York to conceal hush money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

It was the first time a former president had been convicted of a crime. His sentencing was supposed to be just days before the Monday start of the convention but was pushed until September after the Supreme Court ruled that he has some immunity for actions he take in his role as president.
