Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to key electoral prizes, Michigan and North Carolina, to counterprogram the Republican National Convention on Wednesday and Thursday.
Ms. Harris will focus on core Democratic issues such as abortion access during her stops, according to President Biden’s campaign.
All eyes are on Ms. Harris while Mr. Biden fends off critics who say he should drop his reelection bid and let his No. 2 or another Democrat lead the ticket.
Michigan will give 15 electoral votes to the winner of November’s election. Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris may need to win the swing state again to ensure a victory.
Ms. Harris will stop in Kalamazoo for a moderated conversation with Olivia Troye, an aide to former Vice President Mike Pence who resigned in 2020 and became a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and his approach to COVID-19.
Ms. Harris will also meet with Amanda Stratton, a mother and former Republican voter with a “reproductive health story,” the Biden-Harris campaign said.
North Carolina is home to 16 electoral votes and has been an elusive prize for Democrats, despite shifting demographics that should favor the party.
Ms. Harris will deliver remarks in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It will be her seventh trip to North Carolina this year and 15th trip to the state since taking office, the campaign said.
The vice president’s tour of critical states coincides with the GOP convention in Milwaukee.
Republican delegates are cheering on Mr. Trump and his newly announced running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, after Mr. Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
Polls show Mr. Trump leading Mr. Biden in key states and he’s buoyed by a string of legal victories, including the dismissal of his classified-documents case in Florida.
