Elon Musk said that he plans to donate $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super PAC shortly after he endorsed former President Donald Trump following an attempt on his life.

The Wall Street Journal reported Mr. Musk intends to pledge millions to America PAC, a group that is backing Mr. Trump’s bid for a second term in the White House. Quarterly financial disclosures from the organization that ended in June showed that Mr. Musk has not donated to the group before. It is unclear whether Mr. Musk has donated to America PAC in July.

Federal law allows for an individual, like Mr. Musk, to make a financial contribution to a super PAC without a limit on what can be donated.

The super PAC, which was formed in May, has received donations from other high-profile businessmen, including Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale and cryptocurrency billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

Mr. Lonsdale donated $1 million to the PAC, while the Winklevoss twins each donated $250,000.

The America PAC has so far raked in $8.8 million in donations since its inception, and has spent about $7.8 million. Mr. Musk’s pledge, if he follows through, will add a massive injection of cash to the newly-formed PAC — if Mr. Musk donates each month until November, the PAC will earn $180 million from him alone.

His massive donation plan follows his announcement that he would support Mr. Trump to defeat President Biden moments after the former president survived an assassination attempt on Saturday that left him wounded and one person attending his campaign rally dead.
