GOP Senate candidate Steve Garvey on Tuesday said he outraised Rep. Adam B. Schiff in the spring amid the race for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat in California.
Mr. Garvey, a businessman and former Major League Baseball star, raised $5.4 million in the second quarter, while Mr. Schiff, California Democrat, raised $4.2 million during the same April-June period.
“Californians are tired of the status quo, they are tired of the division, they are tired of Washington, D.C., not working together, they are tired of Adam Schiff representing his party bosses rather than them, and now they are speaking up with their checkbooks,” Mr. Garvey said in a statement.
The former Los Angeles Dodger first baseman’s latest campaign finance filing showed he took the fundraising edge over Mr. Schiff after nearly tying the lawmaker in the duo’s previous financial disclosure reports; Mr. Schiff raised $3.6 million from February to March, while Mr. Garvey raised $3.4 million.
Republicans are trying to flip the deep blue seat in their bid to gain control of the Senate. While the GOP candidate has taken the fundraising edge, Mr. Schiff still holds a commanding lead in polling.
In a survey conducted prior to President Biden’s debate debacle, Mr. Schiff held a 20-point lead over Mr. Garvey.
