MILWAUKEE — Former President Donald Trump said he will make his vice president selection Monday, marking the first day of the Republican National Convention.

Mr. Trump told Fox News host Brett Baier that he would announce his choice Monday but did not say where or exactly when he would share the news.

He has been teasing the announcement for weeks, with reports saying his shortlist has shrunk. Among those who have been under consideration are Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Marco Rubio of Florida, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

The announcement comes just two days after the former president survived an attempted assassination while at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Secret Service sharpshooters killed the would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Pennsylvania.

In a Truth Social post Sunday, Mr. Trump said he initially thought about delaying his trip to the convention by a few days, but decided he won’t “allow a ’shooter,’ or potential assassin to force change to scheduling, or anything else.”
