The Washington Nationals will have two representatives at Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game. Closer Kyle Finnegan, who was named an All-Star on Monday, will join shortstop C.J. Abrams in Arlington, Texas.

Finnegan replaces Cardinals pitcher Ryan Hesley on the National League squad.

Washington’s closer has shined in his fifth MLB season, ranking third in the major leagues with 25 saves. The 32-year-old has held opponents to a .190 batting average with 42 strikeouts and a 2.45 ERA.

The Texas State product is Washington’s first All-Star reliever since Tyler Clippard earned the honor in 2014.

Since joining Washington as a free agent in 2019, Finnegan rapidly established himself as one of the top closers in franchise history. He now ranks third in franchise history in career saves with 75.
