House Republicans announced on Friday that they had raked in more money than ever during the second quarter of an election year.
The National Republican Congressional Committee said the record amount was $37 million in April, May and June.
“While House Democrats were engaged in the biggest cover-up in American history lying about the president’s mental decline, the NRCC was furiously raising resources to hold them accountable for it,” NRCC Chairman Rich Hudson, North Carolina congressman, said in a statement.
“We wouldn’t be in this strong financial position without our incredible leadership team who share our goal of growing the Republican House majority,” he continued.
A major chunk of the money came during June, when the House GOP’s campaign arm raised $14.3 million — another record-breaking figure, the organization said, noting that the sum was the most raised in June during a presidential election cycle.
So far, the NRCC has collected $161.7 million and has $70.8 million in cash.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has not released its fundraising numbers for the second quarter. The deadline to file is Monday.
The House Democrats’ campaign arm outraised Republicans in the first quarter, pulling in $45.4 million, about $12 million more than the NRCC.
The fundraising announcement from the NRCC comes as Democrats face uncertainty in November following President Biden’s incoherent debate performance last month versus a strong and clear Donald Trump.
Whether Mr. Biden’s showing has hurt fundraising or polling in tough races is unclear, but over a dozen congressional Democrats have publicly called on him to step aside as the Democratic nominee.
