In his first 2024 campaign speech, President Biden had the unmitigated gall to imply that supporters of former President Donald Trump are enemies of democracy (“Biden’s first campaign speech makes 2024 all about Trump,” web, Jan. 5).

Having been wounded five times in combat in Vietnam while serving with the Marine Corps (and becoming 100% disabled during that time), I am insulted — not just on my own behalf, but on behalf of the many other disabled veterans who are Trump supporters.

I spent most of Mr. Biden’s speech yelling at my TV. Mr. Biden told lie after lie about much of what happened on Jan. 6, depicting everyone involved as an insurrectionist who rioted in the halls of Congress. He blamed Mr. Trump for the whole mess.

But he failed to say that Mr. Trump was still giving his last speech to the public when the Capitol was attacked. Mr. Biden lobbed numerous false accusations at Mr. Trump.

For example, I have yet to see an insurrection intended to overthrow a government without weapons. And what about the video showing U.S. Capitol Police escorting numerous people through the Capitol during the so-called insurrection?

To me, Jan. 6 was a clear case of the people trespassing on the people’s property. Some of them may have had bad intentions, but not all did (though Trump haters love to say otherwise).

Everything Mr. Biden said about our democracy and rights is totally contradicted by his party’s actions. Consider the Democratic-controlled states wanting to remove Mr. Trump from their ballots, for example.

Mr. Biden and his ilk have no respect for the people of this country and should not be given another chance to destroy it.
