The defendant who incited a courtroom melee last week when he leaped over the stand and attacked a Las Vegas judge was sentenced Monday for the crime he originally appeared for.
Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus handed down a prison sentence of 19 months to four years to Deobra Redden on attempted battery charges.
Redden was ordered behind bars for a 2023 assault on a person with a baseball bat.
The three-time felon received his sentence while flanked by a half dozen security personnel and having a spit hood placed over him and his hands restrained.

He faces 13 new charges in connection to the attack on Ms. Holthus last week. That case will be handled by a different court at a later date.
Ms. Holthus seemed poised to give Redden jail time last week when video showed the defendant launch himself over the judge’s stand and tackle the victim.
Court documents related to the attack said Redden slammed Ms. Holthus’ head against a wall, struck her once in the head and pulled some hair from her scalp.
Redden is also accused of giving Ms. Holthus’ marshal a gash to the head and punching a corrections officer.
The court filing said one corrections officer heard Redden say he “had a bad day and tried to kill the judge” during a post-arrest strip search.
Ladonna Daniels, Redden’s sister, told local ABC affiliate KTNV that the defendant suffers from schizophrenia and has been off his medications.
