A D.C. police officer has been charged with stealing more than $45,000 in wages over a nearly two-year stretch by allegedly clocking into a part-time security shift while he was supposed to be on patrol.

Prosecutors charged Marc Davis, 35, with felony fraud on Tuesday in connection with him allegedly standing guard at the Giant grocery store on Alabama Avenue Southeast at the same time he was working the streets in Metropolitan Police’s Seventh District.

MPD’s internal affairs investigators said they obtained timecard records from Giant that showed Mr. Davis clocking in on 193 separate occasions between August 2021 and June 2023, according to court documents.

Investigators also said they gathered 31 video clips that filmed Mr. Davis clocking in to work at the Giant between April and June of last year.

The filing said Mr. Davis, a nine-year veteran of MPD, made $46,356.14 while defrauding the police department. He allegedly worked over 990 hours as a security guard during his patrol shifts.

Investigators said they first received word about Mr. Davis’ alleged fraud last May.

Court documents said the defendant was first approved and hired to work security for the grocery store in June 2017.

MPD allows officers to work as contracted security guards with arresting powers when they are not covering their normal shifts.

Mr. Davis was released on personal recognizance after his hearing Tuesday. He is due back in court Feb. 20.
