An issue with a rear axle hub bolt caused Ford to issue a recall Wednesday on over 112,000 F-150 trucks in the U.S.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the bolt on the rear axle of the F-150 model is at risk of breaking. If that happened, it would damage the vehicle’s axle hub splines and could cause the car to roll away while parked.
The administration confirmed that the recall affects Ford F-150 models from 2021 through 2023 with the Tow Max Duty truck bed.
Ford plans to mail letters to F-150 owners at the end of January informing them that their vehicles may be at risk. The company said customers can take their trucks to a nearby Ford dealership for a fix if they hear a clicking or rattling noise while driving.
The company said it’s fixing the issue and will update customers soon.
The recall comes after a wave of other automotive recalls at the end of 2023. Tesla and Honda recalled millions of cars over malfunctions of varying intensity. Ford also experienced a significant recall last year over F-150 electronic parking brakes.
