OPINION:
The radical and unconstitutional ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court and the un-American move by the secretary of state of Maine to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the ballot are sickening displays of hyperpartisan left-wing judicial activism, government weaponization, and obvious attempts to interfere in the 2024 presidential election.
Make no mistake: This is all about politics. Democrats are looking at the polls and are concerned that they can’t beat Mr. Trump fair and square in November.
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who for eight years served as executive director of the state’s American Civil Liberties Union chapter, and Colorado’s four political hacks in robes ignored key facts so overwhelming that even President Biden’s overzealous special counsel Jack Smith couldn’t make a case for insurrection due to the absence of evidence.
The rogue judicial body in Denver is stacked with left-wing lawyers appointed by liberal Democratic governors. Even so, their decision is such a dangerous assault on democratic principles that three of the seven justices felt compelled to vote against it. In Maine, Ms. Bellows’ blatant abuse of power clearly rises to the level of an impeachable offense, and she should be held accountable.
Recent history has shown that those stricken with Trump Derangement Syndrome never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Decisions like the ones in Colorado and Maine are usually reserved for Third World dictators who abuse the levers of government to cancel their political opponents.
It’s a sad commentary that the U.S. government routinely imposes sanctions on regimes for nefarious behavior just like this. The Supreme Court must step in to stop this naked attempt to destroy our democracy by well-funded socialist forces before other unhinged blue states follow suit.
These desperate attempts to block Americans from being able to vote to reelect Mr. Trump shouldn’t come as a surprise. Trump haters have decided to weaponize every branch of government in every jurisdiction they control to stop him, but their election interference strategy is backfiring miserably.
The American people see what’s going on, and public opinion suggests that they are soundly rejecting the illegal tactics of the left. Look no further than the prominent Democratic leaders who recognize this and have felt compelled to publicly criticize the country-wrecking behavior.
Even with all these attacks, Mr. Trump is leading the race in poll after poll both nationally and in critical battleground states. After four political indictments, a host of lawsuits, and a coordinated effort to purposefully misinterpret the 14th Amendment to the Constitution to disenfranchise his supporters, Mr. Trump is still winning, and the radical left is in the midst of a nervous breakdown over it.
It might just be “deja vu all over again,” in the words of baseball great Yogi Berra. Remember, Mr. Trump’s America First agenda is an existential threat to those who want to fundamentally transform America into history’s next failed socialist state. The Colorado and Maine attacks on our democratic system of government are just the latest chapter in the left’s eight-year quest to take down the ultimate political outsider by any means necessary.
First, the Obama-Biden Justice Department launched the Crossfire Hurricane investigation in July 2016 based on fictitious opposition research provided by Mr. Trump’s Democratic opponent in that year’s election, Hillary Clinton. This fraudulent investigation was launched to derail Mr. Trump’s candidacy plain and simple, but it blew up in spectacular fashion. Obama appointees got caught abusing FISA surveillance laws to spy on their political opponents. It was election interference before election interference was in vogue.
Once Mr. Trump took office, it was Robert Mueller’s “Russia, Russia, Russia” investigation about nothing. Knowing the Trump-Russia collusion narrative was false didn’t stop the Washington establishment from forcing the appointment of a special counsel to investigation the allegations anyway. In the end, the plot was designed to wreck the term of a duly elected president, but it didn’t work.
From there it was on to sham impeachment No. 1, which was based on a spurious claim over a phone call devised by a former national security aide for Joe Biden who remains curiously anonymous still to this day. However, sanity prevailed, and Mr. Trump defeated Rep. Adam Schiff’s effort to overturn the 2016 presidential election.
Then, just before Mr. Trump left office, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to impeach him for a second time without any hearings, debate or due process. It was a disgraceful episode in which accusers once again ignored key exculpatory evidence, such as Mr. Trump’s own words on Jan. 6, 2021, when he said, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” Hardly a call for insurrection, but we’ve all learned that facts don’t matter when the target is Mr. Trump.
Through it all, when Donald Trump overcomes all the illegal Democratic election interference and is elected in 2024 anyway, it will be the biggest political comeback in American history and perhaps the most consequential. A Trump victory at the polls in November will be seen as voters sending the crystal-clear message that the American people choose their presidents, not biased judges, Democratic political hacks and partisan prosecutors being fueled by a warped political agenda.
