Police officers in Austin, Texas shot and wounded an armed man early Sunday after authorities said they witnessed the suspect holding a woman at knifepoint inside the same home where another woman was found stabbed to death.
Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said officers arrived at a house in north Austin around 12:30 a.m. to find multiple people outside the residence, including a man who was bleeding profusely from puncture wounds.
That’s when officers heard a woman screaming inside the house, prompting police to rush into the residence.
Police observed a knife-wielding man restraining a woman who was suffering from stab wounds. Chief Robinson said three officers opened fire on the suspect and injured him.
Authorities said they helped escort the injured woman and three children, who were unharmed, out of the home afterward.
Police said they also found a woman who was dead from stab wounds in one of the rooms.
“I would like to highlight the heroic actions of our officers, who acted swiftly and likely prevented further loss of life,” Chief Henderson said.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to authorities.
Police said they don’t know the relationship between the suspect and the three victims.
No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
