The Biden campaign’s principal campaign manager on Sunday downplayed concerns among more than two-thirds of Americans that President Biden lacks mental acuity due to his frequent gaffes.

Presented with recent findings from an ABC News/Ipsos poll in which 69% of respondents said Mr. Biden does not have the mental sharpness to be president — up from 43% in 2020 — Quentin Fulks made the case that “age equals wisdom equals results and experience.”

“This election is not going to be about age,” Mr. Fulks said on ABC’s “This Week.” “This election is about freedom and democracy, and the fact that Democrats under President Biden’s leadership believe that people deserve more freedom, not less, and Republicans want to roll that back and rip it away.”

Mr. Biden, 81, is the country’s oldest president and would be 86 by the end of a second term.

Republican primary front-runner, former President Donald Trump, is 77 and would be 82 after a second term.

Mr. Fulks contended that Mr. Biden’s age offers an advantage.

“President Biden, because of his age, has come to the table and brought people together from both sides of the aisle to deliver results for the American people,” he said. “The president has been delivering results, and our best answer to this is to continue to communicate about the things that people care about, Americans care about.”
