House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good gave his “total endorsement” Sunday to former President Donald Trump after the Virginia Republican’s preferred candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, ended his campaign.
“President Trump was the greatest president of my lifetime, and we need him to reinstate the policies that were working so well for America,” Mr. Good posted on social media.
Mr. Good, who was one of eight hardline conservatives to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year, endorsed Mr. DeSantis last May, citing at the time the Florida governor’s “courageous conservative leadership.”
Mr. DeSantis’ departure from the presidential race on Sunday left Mr. Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as the lone GOP primary candidates.
Ahead of Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, Mr. Good urged Americans to follow his lead and get behind Mr. Trump.
“I call on all Republicans, independents, and Democrats who love America and are concerned about her current direction, to join me in supporting Donald J. Trump!” Mr. Good said.

But Mr. Good’s primary opponent in his 2024 re-election bid, former Navy SEAL and state Sen. John McGuire, was not impressed and downplayed the endorsement change as self-serving and untrustworthy.
“Bob Good has come groveling back to Trump in order to save his own hide,” Mr. McGuire said in a statement. “He’ll stab Trump in the back again the first chance he gets.”
