House Democrats are attacking Republican candidate Mazi Pilip in a new ad, saying she’s “handpicked” by MAGA Republicans to campaign for the New York House seat left open by the expulsion of former Rep. George Santos.

The 30-second ad is airing on broadcast and cable in the New York City market starting Tuesday. It’s one of multiple ads to be released by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee before the special election next month.

“The MAGA Republican movement handpicked their candidate for Congress — Mazi Pilip,” the narrator says in the ad. “And Pilip would join MAGA Republicans to pass an agenda that would hurt Nassau County and Queens.”

The clip describes MAGA Republicans as Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Matt Gaetz of Florida and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, along with Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana.

“Cuts to Social Security, forcing seniors to pay more and retire later. Cuts to law enforcement jobs, making our communities less safe. And deep cuts to our veterans’ benefits,” the ad says. “Mazi Pilip — handpicked by MAGA to support their agenda. Not ours.”

Ms. Pilip currently represents the 10th state legislative district on Long Island. She will be up against former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi for New York’s 3rd congressional district. Mr. Suozzi is well known in the district, having held the position for six years before he decided to run against Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, and lost.

The two are vying for the seat left open by Mr. Santos, a Republican, who was expelled from Congress at the beginning of December over multiple fraud allegations.

The special election is set for Feb. 13.
