One of Meta’s architects is set to leave for good this year.
Sheryl Sandberg, former chief operating officer at the Facebook parent, announced this week she’ll resign from Meta’s board of directors in the spring.
“With a heart filled with gratitude and a mind filled with memories, I let the Meta board know that I will not stand for reelection this May,” Ms. Sandberg wrote in a post.
She’s leaving the tech giant after 14 years. During her tenure, she helped guide young CEO Mark Zuckerberg toward becoming one of the most influential executives.
“Your dedication and guidance have been instrumental in driving our success, and I am grateful for your unwavering commitment to me and Meta over the years,” Mr. Zuckerberg commented.
Ms. Sandberg said she’ll shift her focus to her philanthropic work at Lean In, a nonprofit that helps inspire women in the workplace around the world.
When Ms. Sandberg joined Facebook in 2008, she already had significant executive and advisory experience at Google, the World Bank and the White House. Her expertise helped expand the company’s revenue from around $150 million in 2007 to $117 billion when she exited as COO in 2022.
Ms. Sandberg also helped guide Facebook’s transition into a public company in 2012 and morphing into Meta in 2021.
