I don’t disagree with everything Cal Thomas writes in “Biden vs. Trump: The evil of two lessers” (web, Jan. 8). In a nation of approximately 330 million people, it would seem we could have better and more robust candidates than two elderly men. New, younger blood on both sides of the aisle would be great, but we live in a time of entrenched politicians who get reelected time after time.

Mr. Thomas’ castigation of President Biden is right on; the current White House occupant is an evil puppet who is destroying this country and the world with his idiotic policies.

But then Saint Cal has to veer into his elitist, sanctimonious lecturing about the stupidity and waywardness of Trump supporters, whom he calls “Kool-Aid drinkers.”

Believe it or not, Mr. Thomas, people support Donald Trump for his policies and accomplishments and because he is not afraid to take on establishment politicians. Low inflation, unemployment rates and gas prices, making us an exporter of petroleum, getting our biggest enemies under control — he accomplished more in just four years than any other president I can think of.

Mr. Thomas suggests we change the candidate-nomination rules to allow delegates to replace voters’ chosen candidates. Why don’t we just get rid of voting all together? How about if we get a chosen few — Mr. Thomas among them, perhaps? — from both parties and let them choose the nominees for us?

In nearly every one of his columns, Mr. Thomas writes has to show his disdain for Trump supporters. Now he’s showing disdain for voters in general. It seem that it it were up to him, we would have a chosen few picking our leaders for us — and that sounds an awful lot like a dictatorship.
