WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Former President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump had just wrapped up speaking on behalf of his father at a caucus site here when he learned the race had already been called.

Eric Trump said he started noticing people looking at their phones and clapping and cheering as he made his way off of the stage.

“It was very cool,” he told The Washington Times. “I think it shows people adore him. They adore Donald Trump — everything he has accomplished, the fight that he has put out there, and the stances he has taken and the arrows he has had shot at him.

“I think it is a great testament to who he is,” Eric Trump said.

The big question now is whether his margin of victory is record-breaking.

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley are duking it out for second place.

Eric Trump said his father has “given a tremendous amount of his life for this cause.”

“He doesn’t need to be doing this,” he said. “He is the last guy who needs to be doing this. DeSantis needs to be doing this. Haley needs to be doing this. He is the last person who needs to be doing this.”
