ANKENY, Iowa — Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley pulled the plug on her scheduled campaign events Friday because of a storm expected to dump upward of a foot of snow in parts of the state.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, meanwhile, addressed a conservative group here this morning with his top Iowa surrogate, Gov. Kim Reynolds.
But the pro-DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down canceled four events featuring the candidate.
The Iowa caucuses are set for Monday.
A spokesman for Vivek Ramaswamy said the brash first-time candidate still plans to hold his events.
Former President Donald Trump was not scheduled to appear Friday in Iowa, but Kari Lake was set to headline an event on his behalf later in the day.
The Haley campaign canceled four events and announced the former South Carolina governor would instead be hosting tele-town-hall events.
“Stormy weather won’t stop us from ensuring Iowans hear Nikki’s vision for a strong and proud America,” said Haley campaign spokesman Pat Garrett. “With only three days until the caucuses, we’re going to keep telling voters why they should pick Nikki.”
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Des Moines area and much of the state, warning heavy gusts and frigid temperatures will make travel dangerous.
Ms. Haley, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, has been creeping up in the polls in Iowa, moving past Mr. DeSantis and into second place behind Mr. Trump.
