DES MOINES, Iowa — Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got it right on a hot mic moment when he said Nikki Haley is “gonna get smoked” in the Republican presidential nomination race.

Mr. Trump said that was a bigger story than Mr. Christie pulling the plug on his candidacy because “no one cared too much about that.”

“I know her very well,” Mr. Trump said of his U.S. ambassador to the United Nations at a town hall hosted by Fox News here in Iowa. “I happen to believe Chris Christie is right. That is one of the few things he has been right about actually.”

Mr. Trump said he is not sure how Mr. Christie’s exit will change the dynamics of the race, but he did raise concerns about Democrats and independent voters being able to vote in the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary.

“It is a bit false in that regard,” he said, before adding he is confident he will win.
