Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie predicted in an apparent hot mic moment Wednesday that Nikki Haley is “gonna get smoked” by former President Donald Trump in the 2024 GOP nomination race.
Mr. Christie could be heard commenting ahead of a livestreamed town hall event in New Hampshire where he reportedly planned to suspend his campaign.
“She’s gonna get smoked,” Mr. Christie said of Ms. Haley. “And you and I both know it, she’s not up to this.”
Mr. Christie’s reported decision to drop out of the race was seen as good news for Ms Haley. She has been locked in a race with Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida to be the chief alternative to Mr. Trump.
Before his mic cut out, Mr Christie also said a “petrified” Mr. DeSantis had called him ahead of the town hall.
