Sen. Tim Scott said his aim is to help former President Donald Trump win the White House rather than worrying about becoming vice president after Mr. Trump mentioned his name as a possibility.

Mr. Trump, over the weekend, told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo that he’s considering Mr. Scott along with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.

“The only thing I can tell you is that the one thing we need is four more years of President Donald Trump,” the South Carolina Republican told Fox News Digital Monday.

“We were better off under Trump. In order for us to be successful, the one thing I can’t afford to do is take my eye off the ball. The eye on the ball means making sure that President Trump gets four more years,” he said.

The former president said on “Sunday Morning Futures” that he wouldn’t be announcing his pick for vice president “for a little while.”

He told Ms. Bartiromo, “You know, I called Tim Scott and …  I said you’re a much better candidate for me than you are for yourself. When I watched him [campaign for the Senate] he was fine. He was good, but he was very low-key.

“I watched him last week, defending me and sticking up for me and fighting for me. I said, ‘Man, you’re a much better person for me than you are for yourself.’”

When asked by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade Tuesday if he was being vetted, Mr. Scott said he didn’t know.

How about joining Trump’s Cabinet? Mr. Scott sounded like he’d prefer remaining a senator, calling it “a pretty cool gig.”

“I’m a kid that grew up in poverty. My only goal is make sure that kids growing up in poverty today see themselves in the White House, see themselves running their own business, see themselves graduating from college,” he said.
