Actress Gina Carano is suing the studios for firing her over free speech — with the help of one of the world’s richest men and his social-media platform.

Ms. Carano said Tuesday that the federal lawsuit filed in California against Disney and Lucasfilm accuses the companies of “wrongful discharge and sex discrimination” by firing her from “The Mandalorian” and all future projects.

And she revealed her supporters.

“A couple months ago Elon Musk tweeted that if you had been fired from using the platform (X) for exercising your right to free speech, he would like to offer these people legal representation,” Ms. Carano wrote.

She said she didn’t expect anything to come of Mr. Musk’s public words but “my now lawyers & X believe whole-heartedly in my case & are moving forward.”

Ms. Carano added that she “would like to express my deepest gratitude & thank you to Elon Musk & X for giving me an opportunity to bring my case to light.”

The main account for X reposted Ms. Carano’s announcement and touted her case.

“As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination,” the platform wrote.

Mr. Musk’s personal account also pushed out Ms. Carano’s post and added “please let us know if you would like to join the lawsuit against Disney.”

Ms. Carano said her firing came after “20 years of building a career from scratch” after she posted ideaa on the platform that were not “in line with the acceptable narrative of the time.”

The lawsuit asks the court to order Lucasfilm to recast her and for at least $75,000 in damages.
