VoteVets, a progressive political action committee that advocates for veterans’ issues, plans to spend $45 million to get President Biden reelected, along with other Democrats running for the House and Senate.

The centerpiece of the PAC’s effort is a $15 million project aimed at veterans and active-duty military families in presidential battleground states.

The group’s priorities include incumbent Democratic Sens. Jon Tester of Montana; Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Sherrod Brown of Ohio; and Reps. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, and Andy Kim of New Jersey, all of whom are running for Senate. Mr. Kim is challenging scandal-plagued Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez.

Jon Soltz, co-founder and chairman of the PAC, told The New York Times — which first reported the group’s plans — that former President Donald Trump’s support of those who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and his comments against military leaders will be showcased in ads.

“There’s political ramifications to all this,” Mr. Soltz said. “There’s no other way to explain the disrespect to Gold Star families and the erratic behavior and the attacks on our law enforcement at the Capitol — these are value things.”

The group has started highlighting the former president’s purported negative comments about those in the military. Last month, the group had an ad run in Pennsylvania during an NFL playoff game that showed Gold Star parents criticizing Mr. Trump for calling veterans “losers [and] suckers.”

Mr. Soltz told the outlet that the PAC intends to run targeted mail and digital advertising campaigns, and TV and radio ads aimed at markets with larger concentrations of veterans.
