President Biden on Friday implored governors to put pressure on their representatives in Congress to pass a $95 billion package of U.S. aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan that has stalled in the House.
“I urge all of you if you agree with me — and many of you do — to urge your congressional representatives to force this bill to be brought up,” Mr. Biden said while addressing the National Governors Association at the White House.
He added that the bill will “prove America can be relied upon.”
“America stands up for freedom. We never bow to anyone, particularly [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” Mr. Biden continued.
The Senate passed the package, which includes $60 billion to aid Ukraine, last week, but House Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican, hasn’t offered a plan to pass it in the House.
Mr. Johnson said he won’t “be rushed” into a decision.
Some House Republicans say absolutely no to the package that the U.S. has already given billions to Ukraine and not enough to stop the flood of illegal immigrants through the U.S. southern border.
