U.S. Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis has selected Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome as her assistant captains ahead of this year’s competition at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in northern Virginia.
“Thinking about what I learned last year in Spain and from previous captains, I asked Paula and Brittany to join the team as well,” Lewis said. “These four have so much experience and love for the Solheim Cup, plus they’re my friends and all major champions too. I’m excited to see them in this role and to help prepare them to be future captains as well.”
Creamer, a 10-time LPGA Tour winner, and Lincicome, a two-time major champion, will serve as assistants for the first time. Creamer appeared in her first Solheim Cup as a 19-year-old in 2005 and has a U.S. record seven foresomes victories in the match-play tournament.
“My seven Solheim Cups are some of the best memories of my career, and I can’t wait to make more memories working with Stacy,” said Creamer. “I’m especially honored to be part of a Solheim Cup that’s taking place just outside of our nation’s capital.”
Pressel and Stanford return after serving alongside Lewis at last year’s event, a 14-14 tie in Spain that allowed the Europeans to retain the cup for the third straight time.
The Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 13-15 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. It’s the first time the club, which has been the host venue to four Presidents Cups and a PGA Tour event, will welcome a major women’s competition.
