Former Rep. Liz Cheney wants House Speaker Mike Johnson to do something the Louisiana Republican has said is out of the question: passing a bill with tens of billions of dollars more in Ukraine aid.

Ms. Cheney, a former Wyoming Republican ousted by voters over her opposition to former President Donald Trump, said it’d be “worth” Mr. Johnson passing the Senate’s foreign aid package even if it means being ousted by his own right flank.

“He ought to understand that it is worth it if he has to lose his speakership in order to mKr sure that freedom survives, in order to make sure that the United States of America continues to play its leadership role in the world,” Ms. Cheney said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus have warned Mr. Johnson that a vote for the aid package with $60 billion for Ukraine would entail a vote to remove him as a speaker.

“He’s going to have to explain to future generations, to his kids, to his grandkids, whether or not he did what was right, whether or not he did what was a force for good and aided the cause of freedom,” Ms. Cheney said. “Or, whether he continued down this path of cowardice and doing what Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin want him to do.”
