Sen. Lindsey Graham, a close ally to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, said Sunday that the former president is wrong to want to wait until potentially getting reelected to fix the southern border.
“President Trump says let’s wait on the border. With all due respect, we cannot wait,” the South Carolina Republican said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “It’s a national security nightmare.”
Mr. Graham was among the Senate Republicans to recently turn against a bipartisan border security deal attached to aid for Israel and Ukraine. He suggested a less expensive package with different immigration policies in the House could be the key to getting approval in a narrowly divided Congress, even as conservatives and Mr. Trump say the answer to record illegal crossings is voting him back in office.
“I don’t want to wait,” Mr. Graham said. “I want to act now on the border.”
