Former President Donald Trump slammed Republicans Tuesday, saying they “don’t learn” after Democrats flipped the New York House seat formerly held by ousted Rep. George Santos.

Mr. Trump called Nassau County Legislator Mazi Pilip, who was running on the Republican ticket against Democrat former Rep. Tom Suozzi for the 3rd Congressional District seat, a “very foolish woman.”

“Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat? I have an almost 99% Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and a very good number in the General Elections, as well, but just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to ‘straddle the fence,’ when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America,” the former president ranted on Truth Social.

Ms. Pilip, a political novice, lost the special election to Mr. Suozzi, who held the seat before he unsuccessfully ran for governor. In his post, Mr. Trump was hitting on the fact that Ms. Pilip is still a registered Democrat and has been since 2012.

However, she claims she did vote for Mr. Trump in 2020.

“MAGA, which is most of the Republican Party, stayed home — and it always will, unless it is treated with the respect that it deserves. I stayed out of the race, ‘I want to be loved!’ Give us a real candidate in the district for November. Suozzi, I know him well, can be easily beaten!” Mr. Trump wrote in all caps.

Mr. Suozzi won the race easily in a district comprised mostly of the North Shore of Long Island and parts of Queens.

Both Ms. Pilip and Mr. Suozzi pledged to run again in November.
