The House in a 214-213 nighttime vote impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, making him the first Cabinet member since 1876 to be painted with the black mark.

It’s well deserved.

He’s turned blind eyes to the border and allowed in unprecedented levels of illegals — of potential murderers, of perhaps rapists, of maybe terrorists — and all the while digging in deep on self-defense with his arrogant smug tone when questioned by Congress. And he still calls the allegations of his willful refusal to enforce law “baseless.”

Too bad, so sad.

Now he’s got to wear the black mark of “Impeached” for the rest of his life, and beyond. History books will record Mayorkas as a failed secretary. He will forever ever be discussed in school classrooms, in political debates, in watercooler discussions around the nation as the guy who got impeached.

Democrats can cry all they want about how Republicans were politically motivated and wrongfully went after Mayorkas and even more wrongfully impeached him. But the asterisk will remain. The badge of shame remains.

He will be remembered as Speaker Mike Johnson put it, post-vote, as “fueling the worst border catastrophe in American history.”

His mom must be proud.

“[Mayorkas] deserves to be impeached and Congress has a constitutional obligation to do so,” Johnson said. “Next to a declaration of war, impeachment is arguably the most serious authority given to the House and we have treated this matter accordingly.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene gets the notch in her belt — along with the Republicans who sided with impeachment.

“‘Angry’ Marjorie Taylor Greene vowed at Mar-a-Lago to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas. She did,” The Palm Beach Post wrote.

Onward and upward. Republicans get some respect for doing the will of the patriotic and conservative Americans. About time.

The Senate won’t convict because it’s dominated by Democrats. Mayorkas and his smug face will stay around a while longer.

“Secretary Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security will continue working every day to keep Americans safe,” a spokesperson with DHS said in a statement.

In other words: Borders will remain open.

America’s boundaries will remain breached.

Illegals, under Mayorkas’ watch — under Mayorkas’ welcome — will continue to pour across America’s borders, only to disappear to parts unknown across the country.

But Mayorkas will forever wear this badge of shame. His name will forever be associated with failed leadership — with the DHS secretary who practically crumbled America from within because of his willful refusal to uphold law and order.

That’s something at least.

That — and his anticipated firing as soon as Donald Trump wins back the White House. For 2024, like for 2016, the issue Americans will be voting is border control, border control, border control. And Mayorkas has pretty much handed Trump and Republicans across-the-board wins for 2024.

Another historical mark for Mayorkas.
