The pilot of a single-engine plane was able to land safely Monday after the plane lost its left rear passenger door during a flight over Buffalo, N.Y.
The plane, carrying one passenger, landed safely at Buffalo Niagara International Airport at around 5:30 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
No one on the ground was injured and there were no reported damages, police said according to the Associated Press.
Oncore Aviation, based in the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga, confirmed to WIVB-TV that the plane belongs to the company. The passenger on board the plane was not a student, the company added. Neither person was named.
The plane was in the air for about 10 minutes when the door fell off, airport authorities told USA Today.
“We have an emergency, we’re heading back. We lost our rear door,” the pilot told air traffic control, according to WIVB-TV.
The door landed somewhere near Stiglmeier Park in Cheektowaga, the Cheektowaga Police Department said according to USA Today. The search for the door is ongoing.
“Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the door,” police said Tuesday.
