President Biden on Monday attempted to show he’s in on the joke by mocking special counsel Robert Hur’s depiction of him as an elderly man with a faulty memory.
Speaking at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington, Mr. Biden made a crack about his alleged forgetfulness while also talking about his age. At 81, Mr. Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history.
Mr. Biden was talking about his pledge to boost American manufacturing when he made the joke.
“Made in America — what I didn’t realize — and I know I don’t look like it, but I’ve been around for a while,” he said. “I do remember that.”
The audience of local municipal officials from across the country responded with raucous laughter and applause.
On Thursday, Mr. Hur released his report on Mr. Biden’s storage of classified documents after leaving his vice presidency. The report described Mr Biden as “a well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” who couldn’t recall when he was vice president or what year his son Beau died.
