Rep. Ro Khanna of California brushed aside concerns Sunday of President Biden’s mental fitness in the wake of a damning special counsel report on his handling of classified documents that described him as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

“I’ve seen the president twice in the past two weeks. I’ve had a conversation with him. He’s completely mentally sharp,” Mr. Khanna, one of the House’s most progressive Democrats, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Special counsel Robert Hur concluded in his report last week that Mr. Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials” as a private citizen after being vice president but declined to bring charges.

Instead, Mr. Hur said the president’s actions presented “serious risks to national security” and that his memory “appeared to have significant limitations.”

Mr. Khanna used Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips’ long-shot Democratic presidential primary bid against Mr. Biden as evidence voters feel satisfied with the president’s mental acuity.

“Dean Phillips has been making this an issue for the past three months, and we have an electoral process,” Mr. Khanna said. “The president won overwhelmingly in New Hampshire. He’s winning overwhelmingly in South Carolina. He’s winning because he’s delivering results.”
