A New York City judge ordered a migrant teen boy held without bail Saturday after the suspect tried to flee the area following a Times Square shooting that left one injured.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa, 15, was tracked down Friday by police in Yonkers as he and his family tried to run from investigators.

“He then returned to his home, and he and his mother immediately began to flee,” prosecutors said during the teen’s Saturday arraignment hearing. “They packed up all their belongings and by 6 a.m. the next morning had vacated their home and fled out of the city.”

The district attorney’s office requested the teen be held without bail because he only recently entered the country and has “significant ties” outside the U.S.

Police said the boy was a Venezuelan national who came to the country in September. He was staying at a temporary shelter in Manhattan prior to making his escape attempt.

Mr. Rivas-Figueroa was charged as an adult with attempted murder in connection to the Thursday night shooting that started when police said he was stopped for shoplifting inside a sporting goods store.

A security guard confronted the teen and two other boys for stealing merchandise, according to police, and Mr. Rivas-Figueroa responded by shooting up the store.

A 38-year-old Brazilian woman was hit in the leg during the incident.

Police said the suspects fled into the surrounding streets, and Mr. Rivas-Figueroa fired at the cops who gave chase.

Authorities said the teen is a suspect in a Midtown shooting and an armed robbery in the Bronx that both took place late last month.

The teen being jailed without bail comes a week after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office was skewered for releasing five migrants who were charged with jumping two police officers in Times Square.

Law enforcement officials told multiple outlets that the migrants have since fled the New York City area.
