President-elect Donald Trump on Monday announced his intent to name Warren Stephens, CEO of a private financial services firm, to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom.
In a statement, Mr. Trump called his nominee “one of the most successful businessmen in the country.”
“Warren has always dreamed of serving the United States full-time. I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the top diplomat, representing the USA to one of America’s most cherished and beloved allies,” Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Stephens, 67, is the chairman, president and CEO of Stephens Inc., one of the largest privately owned investment banks in the country. He is also a huge donor to conservative causes.
Headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, Stephens Inc. has 28 offices worldwide and employs more than 1,200 people, according to its website. The business is said to be worth more than $3 billion.
There was some speculation that Mr. Trump would pick New York Jets owner Woody Johnson would return to the post, which he held during Mr. Trump’s first administration.
