In his column this week, Cal Thomas notes the Biden administration’s attempt to undermine the incoming Trump administration by ripping off us taxpayers by engaging in a fire sale of steel intended for use at our southern border (“Biden admin’s scorched-earth tactics raise concerns before Trump transition,” web, Dec. 16).

It occurs to me that this could backfire on President Biden. Suppose contractors experienced in building such walls were to buy the steel for pennies on the dollar. And suppose the new administration were to move forward with construction of the border wall using the same type of steel. The contractors with materials on hand could greatly reduce their competitive bids and in effect reduce the cost of the wall, saving taxpayers money.
