President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday named Kari Lake to take over as director of Voice of America.

Ms. Lake, a former news anchor turned politician, has been a vociferous Trump supporter. The incoming president said he expects her to enforce standards at VOA, the government-funded news organization that broadcasts in nearly 50 languages.

“She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Mr. Trump said in a statement.

Ms. Lake was the Arizona GOP’s failed candidate for governor in 2022 and for Senate this year.

At VOA, she will replace Michael Abramowitz, a former reporter and head of Freedom House.

VOA has been a target for Republicans in recent years. They say the storied news organization has become rife with political bias and dysfunctional management.
