Dear Dr. E: While I am delighted with November 5th’s “red wave” as well as Donald Trump’s victory in the last election, I continue to be alarmed by so much evil that is going on in our country. The deliberations this past week before the United States Supreme Court highlight how lost our nation is. How in the world have we come to the point where it is even debatable whether or not it should be legal to sexually groom, neuter, and castrate minor children in the name of “gender equity?” How long can we continue to exist as a viable culture if we continue down this crazy path? If we don’t see this as child abuse, does it even matter if we have a “conservative” Congress and president? — SINCERELY, AT WIT’S END FROM EMPORIA, KANSAS

Dear Wit: I agree. America is at a crossroads. While Donald Trump’s election is positive, it is not the solution to our problems but rather only a reprieve that buys us a little more time — time we would not have had if Kamala Harris had won the presidency.

November’s “conservative” swing of the electorate is perhaps our last chance: A chance to repent of our national sins, a chance to plead with God for His forgiveness, a chance for another Great Awakening. Anything short of this will only delay the inevitable.

Every American should read the prophet Jeremiah’s description of God’s judgment against several countries which, like the United States, were all at the pinnacle of their political power and military influence: nations such as Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, Hazor, Elam, and Babylon. Read what God said to each of them, and as you do so, I challenge you not to shudder.

Here’s just a sampling:

“The fortress is put to shame and broken down … desolation and great destruction … Because you have trusted in your own works and your treasures, you shall be taken.

“The destroyer shall come upon every city. The valley shall perish. The plain shall be destroyed … [Your] cities shall become desolation with no inhabitants in them.

“The choicest of young men have gone down to the slaughter … The calamity is near at hand … For the destroyer has come up against you; he has destroyed your strongholds.

“Because [you have] magnified [yourself] against the Lord [you] shall wallow in [your] vomit, and [you] too shall be held in derision.

“[Your] boasts are false, [your] deeds are false.

“Woe to you … Why do you boast, O faithless daughter, who trusts in her treasures, saying, who will come against me? Behold, I will bring terror upon you.

“Is wisdom no more? Has counsel perished from the prudent?

“I will bring calamity … [Your] children will be destroyed … For thus says the Lord: If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, will you go unpunished? I will make you small among the nations, despised among mankind.

“Though you make your nest high as the eagles, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord … Everyone who passes by will be horrified … As when Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, says the Lord, no man shall dwell there.

“At the sound of [your] fall, the earth shall tremble … [Your] soldiers shall be destroyed in that day … Terror on every side.

“I will scatter [you] to every wind … I will bring calamity from every side … Behold, I will break [your] bow … I will bring disaster upon [you]. I will send the sword … I will destroy [your] king and officials.

“The noise of battle is in the land and great destruction … Behold l am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come.

“Babylon [America?] was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand … The nations drank of her wine; therefore, the nations went mad … Her judgment has reached up to Heaven.

“Behold, I am against you … I will stretch out my hand against you … You shall be a perpetual waste.”

Jeremiah continues to describe God’s judgment against some of the most powerful nations in world history. It goes on and on. Why would we think America will avoid the same fate? By almost any standard, God’s judgment seems long overdue.

This past November’s election may be our last chance, our last chance to repent, our last chance to plead to God for forgiveness, and our last chance to avoid the fate that befell every other rebellious nation in history.

As John MacArthur reportedly once said, “If God doesn’t judge America, He owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.”
