Rep. Nancy Mace said Tuesday that she was assaulted over her stand on transgender issues and that the attacker has been arrested.
The South Carolina Republican, who recently succeeded in getting the House to segregate bathrooms by biological sex, said she was not badly hurt in the incident.
“I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine,” she wrote on X.
The U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement that 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois was arrested in an assault that took place just before 6 p.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building.
“McIntyre is facing a charge for Assaulting a Government Official,” Capitol Police said.
Ms. Mace insisted in her Tuesday evening post that she will not be intimidated by the kinds of confrontations and assaults that some progressives have called for against conservative lawmakers and political opponents.
“Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO,” she wrote.
