Authorities identified the man accused of assaulting Rep. Nancy Mace in what the South Carolina Republican called an attack over her stance on transgender issues.
The U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement that 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois was arrested in an assault that took place just before 6 p.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building.
“McIntyre is facing a charge for Assaulting a Government Official,” Capitol Police said.
In a posting on X, Ms. Mace described her assailant, whom she did not name, as “a pro-tr*ns man.”
She said she was not badly hurt — “one new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine.”
