The National Republican Congressional Committee hit the Harris-Walz ticket on extremism in a new ad Thursday.
“Harris-Walz: The most left-wing ticket in history,” the ad titled “No Laughing Matter” reads as clips of Vice President Kamala Harris and her newly selected running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, play in the background.
“Don’t ever shy away from our progressive values,” Mr. Walz says in one clip.
“I am a radical,” Ms. Harris says in another.
Other sound bites are of them talking about the open southern border, immigrants and the number of police on the streets.
“Now, House Democrats are all in,” the video says before showing clips of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Congress’ left-leaning Squad members Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, both of New York, and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota backing the Harris-Walz ticket.
“It’s no laughing matter. They’ll destroy America,” the video says.
The 60-second ad comes just days after Ms. Harris announced her selection of Mr. Walz as her running mate. Republicans have been quick to tear into him.
“The most dangerous far-left presidential ticket in history, and extreme House Democrats can’t contain their glee. It’s the clearest sign yet of their shared radical agenda for America,” Macy Gardner, rapid response director for the NRCC, said in a statement.
In a statement Tuesday, Ms. Harris praised Mr. Walz as a champion of rural, lower- and middle-class voters who will bring “principled leadership” to the campaign.
“One of the things that stood out to me about Tim is how his convictions on fighting for middle-class families run deep. It’s personal. As a governor, a coach, a teacher and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his own,” she said. “We are going to build a great partnership. We start out as underdogs, but I believe together we can win this election.”
They appeared at a campaign rally together Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign slammed Mr. Walz as “a dangerously liberal extremist,” saying he moves the Democratic ticket further to the left.
“It’s no surprise that San Francisco liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running mate — Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota into the image of the Golden State,” said Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign. “Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide.”
