Former President Donald Trump said Vice President Kamala Harris won’t accept the Fox News debate because she’s scared.
“Kamala Harris is afraid to Debate me on FoxNews,” Mr. Trump posted early Tuesday on Truth Social. “She will be easier to defeat on the Debate Stage than Crooked Joe Biden just watch!”
A second debate between Mr. Trump and President Biden was set to be hosted by ABC News on Sept. 10 before Mr. Biden dropped out of the race and Ms. Harris stepped in.
Her campaign has been pushing Mr. Trump to show up for the Sept. 10 debate, but he has been skeptical of debating Ms. Harris.
Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, announced Saturday in a Truth Social post that he agreed to a debate on Fox News with Ms. Harris on Sept. 4 in Pennsylvania with a full arena audience.
“The Fox News Debate will be held in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a site in an area to be determined,” he said. “The Moderators of the Debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, and the Rules will be similar to the Rules of my Debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his Party — BUT WITH A FULL ARENA AUDIENCE!”
Ms. Harris shot down the idea.
“It’s interesting how ’any time, any place’ becomes ’one specific time, one specific safe space.’ I’ll be there on Sept. 10, like he agreed to. I hope to see him there,” the Democratic nominee posted on X.
Harris spokesperson Michael Tyler said Mr. Trump “is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out.”
“He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept. 10,” Mr. Tyler said. “The Vice President will be there one way or the other to take the opportunity to speak to a prime-time national audience.”
Ms. Harris secured the nomination last week during a virtual vote among thousands of Democratic delegates ahead of the Democratic National Convention that starts Aug. 19.
