The new Democratic ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz raised more than $10 million in the hours since the vice presidential pick was announced.
Harris campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz announced the fundraising total Tuesday afternoon in a post on X, saying the $10 million came “from grassroots supporters alone since this morning’s announcement of Gov. Walz as VP Harris’ running mate.”
Ms. Harris included a link for her followers to donate to the campaign through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s grassroots donation platform, in her X post announcing Mr. Walz as her running mate.
“As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work. Join us,” she said.
Mr. Walz quickly followed with his own post saying he was honored to join the campaign.
“Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us,” he said, also linking to the campaign’s ActBlue page.
The fundraising total for the first day of the new ticket is likely to increase, as Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz were hosting a virtual fundraiser Tuesday evening.
Ms. Harris raised $81 million in the first 24 hours of her campaign for president after President Biden announced he was dropping out and endorsed her. The Harris campaign touted that total as the largest single-day haul of any candidate in history.
