Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio said at a campaign stop in Philadelphia Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate to become her radical “partner in crime.”

Campaigning in the heavily Democratic city hours before Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz were to appear there at a rally together for the first time, the Republican vice presidential nominee criticized Mr. Walz as a “San Francisco-style liberal.”

“He is the double-down choice for failed leadership,” Mr. Vance said. “Kamala Harris selected him, I don’t know why, but I think it’s because she’s fundamentally a radical herself, and she wanted to partner in crime.

It just highlights how radical Kamala Harris is.”

Mr. Vance said he left a voicemail for Mr. Walz congratulating him on joining the Democratic ticket. He also said he looks forward to debating him.

“This is a guy who proposed shipping more manufacturing jobs to China, who wants to make the American people more reliant on garbage energy instead of good American energy, and has proposed defunding the police,” he said of his counterpart.
