Chick-fil-A, the home of the “original chicken sandwich,” could soon be the creator of original content.
The fast-food giant has plans to start its own streaming platform, according to reports. The platform would center around family-friendly fare, with a specific focus on unscripted content like game shows, talk shows and documentaries.
One such Chick-fil-A show is already in place, reported Deadline: a 10-episode game show produced by Glassman Media, makers of the NBC trivia game show “The Wall,” and Sugar23, which worked with Netflix on the scripted series “13 Reasons Why.”
Unspecified sources told Deadline that the unscripted shows planned for the unnamed Chick-fil-A platform would have budgets of around $400,000 for every 30 minutes of runtime. The platform is planned to go online this year.
The platform would not be Chick-fil-A’s first foray into entertainment. It made short animated videos as part of its “Stories of Evergreen Hills” series about a girl named Sam who “discovers how little acts of kindness can bring people together,” per the Chick-fil-A website.
Last year, Chick-fil-A sought to hire an entertainment producer in charge of content for an entertainment app.
That content is “intended for Chick-fil-A’s soon-to-be launched PLAY entertainment app and may include scripted podcasts and audio adventures, original animation, reality and game shows, and other live-action scripted or nonscripted programming,” the job listing said, according to Axios.
Chick-fil-A hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
