Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Sunday his decision to back former President Donald Trump wasn’t about “revenge” against the Democrats.

Asked by “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream how much he was “motivated by punishing Democrats” to back Mr. Trump, Mr. Kennedy said “zero.”

“I don’t act in anything in my life, I don’t act out of anger or revenge or resentment,” he said. “It’s a bad motivation. It’s like swallowing poison and hoping someone else will die and so I don’t do it.”

Mr. Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race Friday and endorsed Mr. Trump. Hours later, he joined Mr. Trump onstage at an Arizona rally, where he talked about why he left the Democratic Party.

The Kennedy family is historically Democrat, and Mr. Kennedy’s decision to back Mr. Trump angered the family.

Kerry Kennedy, Mr. Kennedy’s sister, released a statement signed by their other four siblings that reads: “We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future.

“We believe in Harris and Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story.”
